Late night doodles. I’ve been inspired by the art work of http://glennarthurart.com/ specifically the sketches and just wanted to do one for myself. I need to work on learning variations of facial features anyhoos but for now I needed instance gratification and used Taylor swift as my subject matter. The necklace is also loosely based off the image linked below.

Got a new brown paper sketchbook last week. I am going to limit myself to only black and white pen in here to just practice confidence in drawing and getting to know tonal values more intimately. Who knows I might finally get how to shade using line work alone lol

Here’s some rhinos.

I’m fiddling about with my personal website - which means trying to make it pretty with new art yay! Except I’m struggling with really really stupid things like wordpress being a dick.

But here’s the new pin-up lady for the site! yay! Brought to you by the sounds of Tangled!

Have I ever told you how much I love skulls… no seriously!

I have been itching to seriously get into oils again for ages. I haven’t touched them in over a year and probably haven’t taken them seriously in even more than that. So here are a couple of test pieces I started today to see how I fared.

The first is a shoddy still life of some headphones. Lesson learned: I am far too impatient to sit down and get a solid drawing down before I paint… need to work on that one.

The second is a W.I.P. portrait from the beautiful Reine-Haru.Deviantart.com stock seen here: http://reine-haru.deviantart.com/art/Princess-Stock-2-211061095 it’s not terribly accurate but i’ve never tried painting a person before with oils and I just wanted to get that scary part out the way. When the paint dries a little more I may come back and darken up more of the tones to give more contrast and depth.

This is day 4 of the improvement hell challenge. I had to pick a part of the body I struggle to draw and then do studies of it, including at least 5 skeletal and muscle studies.
I suck at anatomy in general, but I remembered from class that for some reason the arm I just never understood. I got the bare basics of other parts of the body but the arm just got really complicated especially the closer to the hand it got. So I decided to go with that.

it just shows how little I really know about my anatomy and I need to fix this so I shall probably try and squeeze in some weekly studies. My information is from an artists anatomy book, and the other illustrations are studies from Bridgeman as I really liked the comparison of the muscles and then his shape break down - I understood it a lot better after doing all those studies. (I did two almost identical because one was so small and got really messy to read ) I also used imagineFX anatomy special to help with some break down shapes.

Here is more information on the 30 day improvement challenge: http://pencilcat.tumblr.com/post/27420093968/30-days-of-art-improvement-challenge

So for the last few days I was away in Quebec seeing family. I therefore got behind and am doing some catch up sessions on the 30 day improvement meme. You can find a full detail of the improvement challenge here: http://pencilcat.tumblr.com/post/27420093968/30-days-of-art-improvement-challenge and check out my tumblr for past and future posts :3

Days 2 and 3 were to draw a natural pose and a movement pose. I had a lot of fun with the male figure as I don’t tend to draw men a lot but as you can probably tell I got a little frustrated with the movement one, for some reason I struggled a lot with the angle of her face among other things.

The male nude figure is from http://artists.pixelovely.com/practice-tools/figure-drawing/ where as the dance figure has been in my reference folder for a while and on trying to find a source it seems to be from every dance academy ever featured on the internet >_<

HEY! Please read!

My name’s Brett, and I created/write a webcomic called Glam Rock Gorilla. GRG’s artists and I have managed to get through one year of activity and updates with minimal complications, but we’re coming up to a crossroads much sooner than later!

GRG’s primary artist, Tom, will only be able to continue working on the comic for a few more months. (Nothing personal, just career/schedule conflicts; expect to see him doing GRG related things in the future.) This means Glam Rock Gorilla will be without an artist, and the comic could go on hiatus!

Those of you familiar with GRG know that there are two other artists attatched to the comic: Maya and Sarah. While I love working with these two, they are not the primary artist for Glam Rock; they’ve been designated to certain Time & Space settings, and I would prefer if I can keep them to their assigned roles. Plus, another artist means another variety!

If you are interested in becoming an artist for Glam Rock Gorilla, please send me a collection/portfolio of your work. Comics and/or sequential work are required; I’ll gladly look at your stand-alone pieces and character designs, but sequential work is crucial to comics.

Two important things: This is a paid gig - I pay each artist per page - and the comic is updated weekly - I want one page per week, with wiggle room being limited to holidays and emergencies.

Please Ask/message me or email me at GlamRockGorilla@gmail.com if you are interested. And PLEASE spread the word with reblogs and hearsay.

Thanks for hearing me out!
